Epilogue

In previous chapters we have discussed in detail that the instrument for understanding the Qurn is the Qalb. I would like to conclude this topic with the Aayaat of Qurn-i-shareef in favour of this statement so that there is no doubt.

()

"Allah Taala hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing. And  one their eyes is a veil; Great is the chastisement they (incur).(2:7)

() ()

"Fain would they deceive Allah Taala and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves and realise (it) not! In their hearts is a disease; And Allah Taala has increased their disease; And grievous is the Chastisement they (incur), because they lied  to themselves. (2:9-10)

()

"Thence forth were your hearts hardened: they became like a rock and even worse in  hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water;  and others which sink for fear of Allah Taala and Allah Taala is not unmindful of what Ye do, (2:74)

()

They say, "Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah Taala's word: We need no more)."  Nay Allah Taalas curse is on them for their blasphemy: little is it they believe.(2 :88)

()

"And remember We took your Covenant and We raised above you (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai), (saying): "Hold firmly to what We have given you and hearken (to the Law)"; they said: "We hear, and we disobey"; and they had to drink into their hearts (of the taint) of the Calf because of their faithlessness. Say: "Vile indeed are the behests of your faith if ye have any faith! (2:93)

()

"Say those without knowledge: Why speaketh not Allah Taala unto us? Or why cometh not unto us a sign? " So said the people before them, words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the signs unto any people who hold firmly to faith (in their hearts). (2:118)

()

"Say: Whether ye hide what is in your hearts or reveal it, God knows it all. He knows what is in the heavens, and what is on earth. And God has power over all things.. (3:29)

()

"Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah Taala, for which He had sent no authority: their abode will be the Fire; and evil is the home of the wrong-doers! (3:151)

()

After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber, while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, moved by wrong suspicions of Allah Taala, suspicions due to Ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?"  say thou: "indeed, this affair is wholly Allah Taalas." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "1f we had had anything to do with this affair, we should not have been in the slaughter here." Say:"Even if you had remained in your homes, those for  whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was) that Allah Taala might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts: for Allah Taala knoweth well the secrets of your hearts. (3: 154)

()

"It is part of the Mercy of Allah Taala that thou dost deal gently with them. Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah Taala's) forgiveness for them: and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast taken a decision, put thy trust in Allah Taala. For Allah Taala loves those who put their trust (in Him). (3: 159)

()

"And the Hypocrites also. These were told: "Come, fight in the way of Allah Taala, or (at least) drive (the foe from your city)." They said, "Had we known there would be a fight we should certainly have followed you. They were that day nearer to unbelief than to faith, saying with their lips what was not in their hearts. But Allah Taala hath full knowledge of all they conceal. (3:167)

()

"(They have incurred divine displeasure), in that they broke their covenant; that they rejected the signs of Allah Taala; that they slew the messengers in defiance of right; that they said, "our hearts are wrappings."Nay, Allah Taala had set the seal on their hearts. For their blasphemy, And little is it they believe. (4: 155)

()

"But because of their breach of their covenant, we cursed them and  made their hearts grow hard, they change the words from their (right) places. And  forget a good part of the Message that was sent to them, nor wilt thou cease to find them barring a few-ever bent on (new) deceits: but forgive them and overlook ( their misdeeds): for Allah Taala loveth those who are kind. (5: 13)

()

"O Messenger! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief who say 'we believe' with their lips whose hearts have no faith; or it be among Jews men who will listen to any lie, will listen even to others who have never so much as come to the. They change the words from their (right) places, they say "If  ye are given this take it, but if not beware! if any one's trail is intended by Allah Taala, thou hast no authority in the least for his against Allah Taala. For such, it is not Allah Taalas will to purify their hearts for them. There is disgrace in this world and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment. (5:41)

()

"Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but we have thrown the veils on their hearts, so they understand it not and deafness in their ears; if they saw everyone of the signs, they will not believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the unbelievers say:" these are nothing but tales of ancients. (6:25)

()

"When the suffering reached them from us, Why then did they not call (Allah Taala) in humility? On the contrary their hearts became hardened, and Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them.. (6:43)

()

"We (too) shall turn to (confusion) their hearts; and their eyes, even as they refused to believe in this in the first instance; we shall leave them in their trespasses to (stumble blindly). (6: 110)

()

"To such (deceit) let the hearts of those incline, who have no faith in the Hereafter: and let them delight in it, and let them earn from it what they may.. (6:113)

()

"Those whom Allah Taala willeth to guide, He openeth their breast to Islam; Those whom He willeth to leave straying, He maketh their breast close and constricted, as if they had to climb upto skies. Thus doth Allah Taala lay abomination on those who refuse to believe. (6: 125)

()

"To those who inhert the earth in succession to its (previous) possessors, is it not a guiding (lesson) that, if we so willed, we could punish them (too) for their sins, and seal up their hearts so that they could not hear. (7:100)

()

"Many are the Jinns and men We have made for Hell: they have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle;- nay more misguided; for they are heedless (of warning). (7:179)

()

"O ye believe! Give your response to Allah Taala. And His messenger, when He called you to that which will give you life; And know that Allah Taala cometh in between a man and his heart, and that it is He whom ye shall (all) be gathered. (8:24)

()

"And (moreover) He hath put affection between their hearts; not if thou hadst spent all that is in the earth, couldst thou have produced that affection, but Allah Taala hath done it; He is exalted in might, wise. (8:63)

()

"How (can there be such a covenant) seeing that if they get an advantage over you, they respect not in you the ties either of kinship or of covenant? With (fair words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse from you; and most of them are rebellious and wicked. (9:8)

() ()

"Fight them, and Allah Taala will punish them by your hands, and disgrace them help you (to victory) over them, heal the breast of believers. And still the indignation of their hearts.  For Allah Taala will turn (in mercy) to whom He will: and Allah Taala is All-knowing, All-wise."

(9: 14-15)

()

"Only those ask thee for exemption who believe not in Allah Taala and the Last Day, and whose hearts are in doubt, so that they are tossed in their doubts to and fro. (9:45)

()

"They prefer to be with (the women) who remain behind (at home): their hearts are sealed and they understand not. (9:87)

()

"The foundation of those who so build is never free from suspicion and shakiness in their hearts, until their hearts are cut to pieces. And Allah Taala is All-knowing, wise. (9: 110)

()

"Whenever there cometh down a Sura, they look at each other (saying); "Doth anyone see you? "  Then they turn away; Allah Taala hath turned their hearts (from the light); for they are a people that understand not. (9: 127)

()

"They running forward with necks out streched their heads uplifted. Their gaze returning not towards them, and their hearts a (gaping) void! (14:43)

()

"And we shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury; (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on raised couches. (15:47)

()

We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say. (15:97)

()

"Anyone who, after accepting faith in Allah Taala, utters unbelief, except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in faith, but such as open their breast to unbelief, on them is Wrath  from Allah Taala and theirs will be a dreadful Chastisement. (16:106)

()

"And We put coverings over their hearts (and minds) lest they should understand the Qurn, and deafness into their ears: when thou dost commemorate thy Lord-and Him alone-in the Qurn, they turn on their backs, fleeing (from the Truth). (17:46)

()

"We gave strength to their hearts: Behold, they stood up and said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and of the earth: never shall we call upon any god other than Him: if we did; we should indeed have uttered an enormity!. (18:14)

()

"And keep thy soul content with those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking his Face; and let not thine eyes pass beyond them, seeking the pomp and glitter of this Life; nor obey any whose heart We have permitted to neglect the remembrance of Us, one who follows his own desires, whose case has gone beyond all bounds. (18: 28)

()

"(Moses) said: O my Lord! expand me my breast. (20:25)
